When you are involved in an auto accident, many factors come into play. The speed of the vehicles, the types of vehicles involved in the accident, the direction of the impact, and many other factors. This information is important as it is needed so that the injuries that have been sustained can be better understood.
Even low impact collisions, like a slower impact from a vehicle behind you, may cause injuries. In other words, it doesn’t always require a massive collision to cause painful injuries to occur.
Neck Injuries or Whiplash
One of the common injuries that we see due to auto accidents are neck injuries or “whiplash injuries”. This is when the neck is snapped back and forth quickly, causing injuries to many of the structures within the neck.
Injuries from this can involve the neck muscles, the nerves, the ligaments and even the intervertebral discs of the cervical (neck) area.
Low Back Pain
Another common injury that results from car accidents is low back pain. The lower back can become vulnerable in these situations and the trauma can cause mild to extensive injuries to the lower back area.
The big muscles of the low back can be strained, the lumbar (low back) discs can be involved and standing and walking can even become very difficult to do.
Radiating Symptoms
If the injuries involve the nerves or intervertebral discs of the low back or neck, you may suffer from radiating symptoms into the legs or arms.
Symptoms that occur from this type of problem include radiating pain, numbness, tingling, sensitivity, or even weakness. These symptoms may cause you to have an inability to function properly during the day or night.
